Jay P. Shepard
President and CEO
Jay joined NextWave Pharmaceuticals in 2010, as President and CEO. He has more than 25 years experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and drug delivery arenas. In addition to his responsibilities as CEO to NextWave Jay maintains a consulting relationship with Sofinnova Ventures (NextWave is a Sofinnova portfolio company) in his capacity as an Executive in Residence, where he joined in 2008. Prior to Sofinnova Ventures, Jay was President and CEO of Ilypsa, a nephrology therapeutics company acquired by Amgen for $420 million. He then helped with Ilypsa’s spin-out of Relypsa, serving as interim President and CEO, and today remains involved as a board member. Before Ilypsa, Jay served as Vice President, Commercial Operations at Telik, where he was responsible for all activities relating to market preparation toward the launch of the company’s lead oncology compounds. He was also Vice President of ALZA Pharmaceuticals’ Oncology Business Unit, having held leadership positions of increasing responsibility in the establishment and operation of ALZA’s specialty pharmaceutical sales and marketing group.
Jay began his career in pharmaceutical sales and marketing at Ortho Pharmaceutical and Syntex Laboratories. He holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Arizona. |

Robert Casale
Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Scerene Healthcare. Bob has over 23 years of healthcare experience. Most recently, Bob was the Chief Operating Officer of Adams Respiratory Therapeutics. He joined Adams in 2004 as Vice President, Marketing and Business Development and was named Chief Operating Officer in 2006. Bob was a driving force behind the growth of the Adams business, which grew from $60 million to near $500 million under his leadership. He led the diversification of the Adams' portfolio of products by launching Mucinex D and DM, Mucinex for Children, Mucinex Nasal Spray, and acquiring the Delsym brand. Adams was sold to Reckitt Benckiser in 2008 for $2.3 billion.
Bob began his career in 1983 at a Wall Street law firm and joined the legal division of Warner Lambert in 1986. In 1993, he was appointed Warner-Lambert's Vice President of Marketing for the company's upper respiratory and gastrointestinal (GI) consumer products and oversaw several brands, including Benadryl, Sudafed, Zantac 75 and Rolaids. Bob also served as a global vice president for Warner-Lambert's GI and skin care businesses. Following Warner-Lambert's acquisition by Pfizer Inc., Bob served as Vice President, Strategic Planning and Business Development for Pfizer's Consumer Healthcare Division.
Bob is also the non-executive Chairman of Topaz Pharmaceuticals. |

Steve Elms
Steve joined the Perseus-Soros BioPharmaceutical Fund ("PSBF") in 2000, and currently serves as a managing director of Aisling Capital LLC, which is a successor fund to PSBF. Previously, Steve was a Principal in the Life Sciences Investment Banking Group of Hambrecht & Quist for five years where he was involved in over 60 financing and M&A transactions, helping clients raise in excess of $3.3 billion in capital. Prior to H&Q, he traded mortgage-backed securities at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette for two years. His previous healthcare sector experience includes over two years as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Marion Laboratories and two years as a consultant for The Wilkerson Group. He currently serves as a director of Bioenvision, Inc. (Nasdaq: BIVN) and a number of private companies.
Steve received a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. |

Hingge Hsu, M.D.
Hingge joined Fidelity Biosciences as a Venture Partner in April 2009. Most recently he was a Managing Director at Lehman Brothers in their Private Equity Group, responsible for their principal investment activities in the private and public sectors of the healthcare industry. Prior to that, he was a Partner at Schroder Ventures Life Sciences from 1998 to 2001 and directed their US investment activities in the life sciences and therapeutics sectors. Hingge was also a Principal at Robertson Stephens in the Healthcare Investment Banking Group and worked at Chiron Corporation and Gensia, Inc in the areas of business development and strategic planning.
Hingge received an MD degree from Yale University School of Medicine and was trained in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He also received an MBA degree from Harvard Business School. |

Frank Kung, Ph.D.
Frank is a Managing Partner and one of the founders of Vivo Ventures. He has been working in the biotechnology industry since 1979, when he joined Cetus Corporation. Frank co-founded Cetus Immune (1981), now part of Chiron/Novartis, and Genelabs Technologies (1984), where he served as chairman and CEO until 1996 and took the company public with Dr. Engleman in 1991. He has served on the board of directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and its predecessor for four years. He is the recipient of the Best Use of Technology Award from the state of California, the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Ernst and Young, and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Asian Business League.
Frank received his BS from the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, and his PhD in molecular biology and MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. |

Anand Mehra, M.D.
Anand joined Sofinnova Ventures in 2007 to focus on biopharmaceutical investing. Anand’s diverse background equips him to work with entrepreneurs on scientific, clinical, and strategic levels. Currently, Anand is a director of Vicept, Marinus, and Nextwave Pharmaceuticals and played an instrumental role in the firm’s investments in Hyperion and PregLem. Prior to joining Sofinnova Ventures, Anand worked in JP Morgan’s private equity and venture capital group, where he was heavily involved in new investments, management of their public portfolio, and the firm’s spin-out from the bank. Before joining the venture community, Anand was a consultant in McKinsey & Company's pharmaceutical practice, advising pharma and biotech on key strategic issues, and an NIH-funded Fellow focused on reperfusion injury in stroke.
Anand received his M.D. from Columbia Medical School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia. |

Patrick J. Zenner
Pat has over 40 years experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life sciences industry. He is currently chairman of the board of ArQule Inc., a clinical stage biotechnology company and Exact Sciences, a molecular diagnostics company. Pat also serves as a director of West Pharmaceutical Services, Xoma Ltd. and Endotis Pharmaceuticals. He previously served as a director of Genta Inc., Praecis Pharmaceuticals, Dendrite International, CuraGen Corporation, Sciele Pharmaceuticals and Geron Inc. Pat retired from Hoffmann-LaRoche Inc. a multinational pharmaceutical company in 2001 after a 32 year career with the company. He joined the company in 1969 as a medical sales representative and subsequently held a number of domestic and international management positions. In 1993 he became Chief Executive Officer, North America.
Pat has a BSBA degree from Creighton University and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is a trustee of both Universities and is Chairman of the board at Fairleigh Dickinson.
